These are different types of sounds you can hear on programmes and movies.
Diagetic Sound: Both audience and characters within the programme and film can hear the sound. It is all the sound that is played in the film/programme.
Non-Diagetic Sound: Only audience can hear. Played outside of the scene, sound bridge.
Voiceover: When a voice is heard whilst we see an image. The actors/characters cannot hear this and it gets edited in after the scene is filmed.
Parallel Sound: When the sound matches what we see on screen.
Dialogue: A conversation between characters on screen.
Contrapuntal Sound: What we see on screen and hear don't match. For instance, hearing happy music in a scary horror film. The contradict eachother.
